Why Cambridge is like Hogwarts...

Tue Mar 17, 2009, 3:24 AM
My holiday (in name only - no rest for the wicked) started this weekend, so my dad and my sister came to pick me up from uni in Cambridge. While walking round town my dad commented on some of the shops, and how if he didn't know any better he'd think he was in Diagon Alley (I think the particular shop he was referring to was Ede and Ravenscroft, which sells gowns and things and looks very similar to Madame Malkins - it even has a Potter-esque name!). I completely agree - in fact, I've been wondering to myself all term if Cambridge is the closest thing to Hogwarts you can get. This year I've taken a bit of a break from medicine and have been doing History and Philosophy of Science, which has led to me having some very peculiar lectures. OK, so perhaps I intentionally picked the weirder, more occult sounding topics, but when I arrived in Cambridge all those years ago little did I expect to be having lectures on alchemy, phoenixes, curses, the philosophers stone and even bezoars!
So, obviously I've enjoyed lectures a lot more this year, and will be sad to go back to clinical school in september. But...still lots to do before that happens. I now have a month to write my dissertation (on C13 Monastic Medicine) and then revision revision revision...so alas, no time for poetry!

yes I'm thinking of doing a guide book for a story I'm writing and illustrating for illustration class. An idea that came from my tree spirits, (we have 3 projects to self set) :)
Ooh cool I loved the tree spirits!!! I think the Rowan was my favourite. I'd love to see what you come up with :) I didn't know you wrote as well!
